Maintain Good Posture! Injuries occurring from poor back position and posture when going overhead are pretty common but fairly easy to avoid. Focus on maintaining good posture when lifting overhead. Go through the bracing sequence: 1. Squeeze the glutes 2. Pull the ribs down 3. Tighten the Belly 4. Bring the head and shoulders into a neutral position If you feel yourself deviate from a solid position, you’re opening yourself up to injury. Go lighter and focus on maintaining good posture. You may also need to target specific areas of the body in terms of mobility and strength depending on the type of posture you exhibit. Something to keep in mind you should always keep good posture even outside of the gym it not only helps you be in a safer position but it also helps your confidence and self esteem.
